Introducing the Jet-Eyes F-86D/L “Sabre Dog” aircraft tag! These tags were cut from the fuselage of aircraft 51-6139. The F-86 was developed in the late 1940s by North American Aviation. The early F-86 variants were designed to be daytime fighters whereas the later variants (D/K/L) were developed to be all-weather interceptors. These variants were equipped with air-to-air rockets, a more powerful engine, and a distinctive radome (nose) that housed an AN/APG-36 all-weather radar. Aircraft 51-6139 was built as an F-86D and later upgraded to an F-86L before it was retired from service.
The Jet-Eyes F-86D/L tag comes in 7 colorful variants and features a head-on view of the Sabre Dog. A full set of all 7 tags can be purchased at a discounted price. Only 5 full sets are available and the option to purchase a full set is only valid for 48 hrs after launch. The blue variants range from all blue to mostly blue, and have artwork printed in white ink. The Bi-color blue tags have a combo of blue and varying degrees of green paint and a portion of the tag is raw aluminum. The orange tags vary greatly in color. Many tags have rivets and rivet holes.
The original cardback is inspired by pop-art of the era and was drawn by a former squadron-mate and good friend of mine, Tim Steiner. It depicts a Sabre Dog claiming a MiG by way of its Mighty Mouse air-to-air rockets. This run will be limited to 250 tags. These tags will begin shipping the week of 23 Jan 2022.
